Friday night me and Phil went to the Wood Green short film festival and watched a bunch of animation shorts. Best of all was David Shrigley’s more of which can be found on his web page; david shrigley. I really liked about half of what was shown but was very indifferent to the rest. Check out; Fallen Art, Flesh, Rabbit; Photocopier; & Maestro for other great animation shorts. The festival info is all here; wood green film festival
Saturday was spent trying to figure out a new database set up at work and then a bit of month end tidy up on the payroll. Still, this does mean 9 hours overtime which will come in handy a hell of a lot for next month. Yes, yet again I am absolutely brassic – I had just over a tenner to live off fro the last two weeks of the month and so it’s a diet of toast every day till Friday –joy! At least I have a jar of marmite and a jar of jam to accompany my lunches. Hopefully Phil will have enough to buy a bit of food for supper – although I do have lots and lots of tuna fish left in the cupboard and so can always live off of that for a few days.
Saturday night we all went round to H & C’s for Phil’s birthday drinks. C made a hell of a lot of white russians which Phil drank pints of out of an old man handled glass, excellent style. I didn’t touch the white russians and settled on copious amounts of wine, champagne and brandy and a solitary Guinness which was drunk when me and Dave snuck off to the pub to get a quick game of bar billiards in. This also let Dave avoid playing Buzz on the PS2 – he isn’t a big fan. First time I played it – good fun! – Although Phil managed to sneak a win on the last question. Good work to H as well for finishing with 50pts. Ha ha.
Sunday morning my head felt like an inverted cactus. Phil was fine. This may point towards white russians as a good drink to have to avoid hangovers. I hate milk however and so I’ll have to find another one. Phil went off to the film festival to go to a talk & Q&A with a cinematographer whose name escapes me but who did a bunch of great films whose names also escape me. Sorry. Phil, H and Me then went to see Hostel. This is the worst film I have seen for many, many years. It’s billed as being the scariest horror film for a decade. Scary? No, not really. Gruesome? Yes. Inventively gruesome? No. utter, utter shit? Yes.
Went back home and watched the brilliant Planet Earth – this week was caves. Phil finds them fucking scary, I really want to go caving I went a few times with school/scouts in Wales and loved it. Although I do not want to go caving in Borneo. The caves there were full of bats, batshit, cockroaches, bugs and BBC film crews moaning about everything.

I love David Shrigley, for more check out www.davidshrigley.com
Reminds me of all the robots me and Dave drew all those years ago. We plastered them all over the walls of our house in Winchmore Hill and had to explain them over and over again to each new visitor to the house. We did have a guest wall for robots designed by visitors.
I remember showing people round the house when we needed new housemates; “this is the kitchen, all mod cons, even a dishwasher. This is the bedroom, good size isn’t it? This is the front room, here is a wall of robots that me and Dave design. Would you like to design one? If you do it will go on the opposite wall until you have moved in properly. You are going to move in aren’t you? Where are you going? Come back! Stop running! Is that a yes?”
Although the two/three girls who did move in liked the robots! Good work Ali/Lou/Charlotte.
It was an excellent acid test of whether we would get on.
We removed them the next year when looking for more house mates and we didn’t get such good friends move in. So there you go.
Maybe I’ll look at putting the robots on my blog…
